Awesome Fall Weekend

Gina and I have spent the day unloading the gas kiln with Mugi Studio (NYC) and reloading with the YMCA (NYC) pieces. Gina managed to move up all pieces that were in the kiln to the gallery (see photos) that were mine. In addition, she managed to sort and pack all the pieces that were unloaded this morning for Mugi. Go Gina!

A Saturday with Mugi Studio students

I have a relationship with Mugi Studio in New York City in which the students come to my studio and spend the day glazing their pieces with my glazes. I will fire the pieces in my gas kiln. The pieces are picked up by the instructor (owner and friend) and returned to the students.

The workshops are usually in the fall and spring. I will have a group on Tuesday and the last group on October 27th.

The photos show the studio cleaned up prior to the workshop and then the students.

Glazing Days...

I have been glazing my pieces for the next kiln. I need this shelving unit full plus other pieces to fill the kiln. It is my hope that the kiln will be loaded this week.

Enjoy a picture of the flowers outside my studio door.

Sake Server and Cups

Okay, I got some inspiration while I was on our family vacation in California.  We had dinner in a Japanese restaurant in Pal Alto.  This restaurant was one of Steve Jobs favorites.  We had sake and I was encouraged by loved ones to make both the container that the sake was served in and the cups in which we enjoyed the sake from.  Here is my first attempt at this...

I hope you are staying cool in this very hot weather.

Sake container.

The two pieces separated - sake goes in the piece on the left and hot water goes in the piece on the right.

Sake cups (without handles).

Back to Work!

I've been on a family vacation in the wine country of California. It is time to get back to work...

I ran a bisque yesterday and Gina unloaded the pieces this morning for me. Now they need some sanding and glazing.

Happy Summer!

Fired My Own Pieces Today!

I fired a kiln load of my own pieces today! We will unload the kiln on Friday. We have NYC Mugi group coming on Saturday. I will fire the kiln again next week for them.

In addition to firing the kiln, I built two trays.

The photo is from Gina and I loading the kiln. We will try to take one when we unload the kiln.

I hope all is well.

New York City YWCA Pieces Have Been Fired!

So, I spent the day firing the kiln for the New York City YWCA. It is my hope they will come out Sunday.

These pictures are from this morning with kiln on from the burners on to the glow inside the kiln. The temperature was only 1000 degrees! If you look through the orange glow...you can see the cone pack. The one picture shows the graph from the previous firing and this kiln did the same!

A Visit from the New York City YWCA Group...

I got to spend all day Tuesday with nine people from New York City YWCA.  The students came and glazed their pieces with my glazes.  We were able to load the kiln with their pieces. I will be firing the kiln tomorrow with hopes of pulling the pieces out on Sunday.

The pictures were taken prior to the arrival of the students.  The studio was clean and I was set up and ready to great them!

I hope all is well with you!!
