Mugi pots are out of the Kiln!

We unloaded the kiln this evening!  Everyone should be happy with your pieces and glazes.

The first photo is taken after the brick door came down.  The next two photos are the glazing table with most of the pots from the kiln.  The final photo are the pieces that were the last ones out of the kiln and did not fit on the other table.  The pieces will be packed up this weekend and taken back to Mugi Studio and Gallery in New York City.  Can you find your piece?

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!  We hope you enjoy your holiday weekend.

The Burners Are On...

Okay, the kiln is full.  On Monday evening, the door was bricked up and the burners (pilots) were started.  The pilots will warmed the kiln until this morning and I got up early to start the firing.  The kiln warmed-up to about 400 degrees.

I spent the whole day working on the firing.  Now, I need to allow it to cool for three days.  We will take pictures when we go to unload.

This is a picture of one of the pilots being lit.      Have a great day!  David

Mugi Weekend...

On Saturday, we had a group of New York City students from Mugi Studio (http://www.mugipottery.com/) and Gallery (and one student from the YWCA) come up for a day of glazing with my glazes and their pieces that were bisqued.  Some of the glazed pieces are above on the table waiting to go into the gas kiln.  I will fire the pieces early this week.  Outi (their teacher) will pick up the pieces next weekend to return to the students during their normal class in NYC.  Some of the students were new and others have been here before with Mugi or the YWCA in New York City.

As you can see there was much cleaning and preparing for the students.  The buckets of glazes (38 total) at this time are all labeled with duct tape on top with the name of the glaze (some of the buckets and tiles are below in the photo).  In addition, there were test tiles with all of the glazes for the students to know what the glaze should look like on their pieces.  In addition, there were stains to add and ashes.

Today, I will finish filling the kiln with my pieces (see photo below with all of the Mugi pieces in) and Gina will help me brick up the door.  It is my hope to fire the kiln on Monday or Tuesday to give enough time for the cooling phase.  I will keep posting updates of the firing for everyone to follow.

Have a great day!

Last week, I had two visitors - Nuns from the Monastery of Our Lady of Grace in North Guilford. They spent over 2 1/2 hours with me at my studio learning different techniques. I then invited them to join me at Wesleyan Potters during my weekly class. Wesleyan welcomed them with open arms and gave them a tour of the facility. The ladies were really nice, young and spunky! I enjoyed spending time with them. They came with a box of fudge that they make at the Monastery....REALLY GOOD FUDGE!

I'm looking forward to my New York group this weekend from Mugi.

Hope all is well!
