Happy Holidays!

Once, my third show weekend was over...I took a break to prepare for the holidays!  Hence, why there has been no new postings since December 2nd.  The picture above was taken after our "Blizzard of 2010".  And, the wreath below was made by Katie in Minnesota (thank you, Katie!).

I have read one of the best books ever - Little Bee by Chris Cleave (thanks, Gina!).  In addition, I have made several bottle openers which I gave to family for the holidays.  They were in the New York Times for $20.  I made them free with wood on the farm and nails that were given to me.  They have been a big hit!

I have only been in my studio to check on the heat, to clear a path after the snow storm and to assist a few customers. I'm looking forward to getting back to work in the studio after the holidays.  It is my hope to work and expand upon my metal handle pieces in the new year (they all sold out during the show).

The gallery sign and pictures below are all after our "Blizzard of 2010".  I hope this posting finds you warm and excited for 2011.  Be safe and Happy New Year!

Wesleyan Pottery Field Trip to David's Home, Studio & Gallery...

On Wednesday, the potters from Wesleyan Pottery came for a visit.  We had sometime in the studio, gallery and a great lunch in the house.  What a great time!  Here are some pictures of us setting up for lunch.

More Cleaning and Pricing... We are almost there!

We have made major progress in the gallery.  We should of taken a before picture and an after picture....because we have come a long way in the last two days.  As you can tell from the picture of Mia (our dog), she was tired of us working in the gallery today!

We hope you will come and visit my Gallery and Studio:
Saturday and Sunday, November 20 & 21,
Saturday and Sunday, November 27 & 28, and
Saturday and Sunday, December 4 & 5
from 10am until 5pm.  Fresh cookies!

Have a great week!

Setting up the Show

Gina helped me get the gallery looking like a gallery today.  I unwrapped and inventoried all the pieces back from Mugi Studio and Gallery.  Gina organized and started to get the displays looking really nice.  We have several wonderful pieces for the opening next weekend.  Gina had me put the wires on the back of the platters and they are hanging on the wall.  In addition, we have several pieces on the beams.  Here are some photos from tonight before we gave up for the evening.

We have more work tomorrow - vacuuming and dusting all the pieces.  My job will be to make sure all the pieces are priced.  I believe we will easily open with more than 500 pieces and more packed waiting to be out during the three weekends.

We hope you enjoyed the great weather today!

David and Gina, too

Lunch Time...

We are in the house warming up with soup and sandwiches for lunch.  Gina has started the wood stove to warm up the house and the dog is asleep near the wood stove.

We were able to load 2/3rds of the kiln this morning and have some very large pieces for the last 1/3rd.

These two pictures show the miniature cup with the over sized mug (photo on left)!

The miniature cup by itself.  The miniature cup is made with a pencil.

Yes, they are both glazed and will be fired in this kiln.

This picture shows the bricks that I use for shelf support.  I had set these two bricks up to show Gina what size of pieces I needed to start loading the kiln.  I believe, she gave me bowls to go into this shelf.  The brick on the bottom is 4 1/2 inches and the brick on top is another inch.  The black brick is from a broken kiln shelf.

Have a great Sunday afternoon!

Mugi Show Photos...

My opening was Friday evening at Mugi Gallery and Studio in New York City.  Gina took this photo of me in front of Mugi before the show.  This show will continue through the end of the month at Mugi.  Below are photos of the from the show.

Have a nice week...

Some more repairs...

I spent most of the day on Friday working on the electric kiln which found one of the elements burnt out.  The others were in need of being replaced.  The replacement parts that I had were about 10 years old...and I was short one part.  I spoke to someone in Seattle, Washington and he was able to refer me to someone in Massachusetts that I was able to orwas able to order the part from someone in Massachusetts.  I should have the part in a few days.

Additionally, I fixed the plumbing in the glaze room on Saturday.  That was easy job after I got the new part and a new tool to install the part with.

Gina and I priced and packed six more boxes of pots up for the Mugi show that will take place on Friday in New York City.  Outi will be stopping by today to pick-up the boxes.  We will also take a few more boxes to New York City when we go down on Friday.  The opening reception is Friday, October 15th from 6pm - 9pm.  Hope to see you there!  The address is:  Mugi Studio, 993 Amsterdam Avenue @ 109th Street, New York City, NY.  The phone number is 212.866.6202.  Website:  mugipottery.com.

I'm off to sand and wax this morning!  Enjoy the great fall weather.

The time of year that we start to think about soup...

The temperature has finally cooled down and it is starting to feel like fall.  I made another set of hand built cream and sugar pieces with feet, pulled handle on the creamer and hand built top to the sugar (see photo above).  I made soup bowls and soup terrains and have them drying right now (see photos below).  The soup terrains will have handles added to them after they are glazed and fired.

In addition, I have several shelves of pots ready to be sanded, waxed and glazed in my glaze room (see photo below).

Enjoy the weekend!

The Windows are In and I'm Back to Work...

Okay, I got the windows back into my studio!  Gina and I painted around the windows from the inside (we have not finished from the outside).  It is my hope that heat will stay in this year rather than leaking through the broken window and old frame that was in pIace prior to the new windows.
The first three boxes are in Outi's Volvo and are headed to New York City for the Mugi Opening on Friday, October 15 from 6 pm to 9 pm.  We will be packing boxes and having them picked up on Sunday evenings for the next couple of weekends.  Outi is great and stops by prior to returning to NYC to transport my pieces to her gallery and studio.  Thank you, Outi!  You are awesome!  It is our hope to have about 125 pieces at the opening on Friday, October 15th!  I hope to see you there!
I have started throwing more pieces...wine goblets.  Let's celebrate!
I hope you have a nice week.
