Spring Show Pictures...

I thought, I would highlight some of the photos that I took this past week when I was trying to get the perfect picture for the postcard.  You should see the postcard in your mailbox in a few weeks. 

This photo was taken after the firing and the door had been taken down. I usually fire around 150 pieces at a time.

This is my new shape with fluted sides.

This piece is in the purple/red glaze with fluted sides.

This new piece should function as an oil server.

Happy Spring! Spring Show coming May 1st & 2nd...

Happy Spring Everyone!!! 

I'm working on making new pieces for my Spring Show which will take place on Saturday, May 1st and Sunday, May 2nd from 10 am until 5 pm.  The photo for the postcard has been shipped to California and they will start working on the postcards this week.

I have been throwing this past week and have almost another kiln completely thrown.  I'm working on a large bowl at the wheel is this photo.  And, yes the t-shirt is on with a summer hat.

I had fun making the green glaze halo red on this piece which was a sample in the last kiln firing.  Gina is not a big fan of this glaze combination.  

2nd Kiln Loaded of the New Year!

This morning, Gina and I loaded the second kiln of the year. In the picture above, you can see the new oil decanter on the bottom shelf. The glaze combination is turquoise on the bottom and tenmoku on the top with a splash of black. The top to this pot will be fired separately and can be found the next shelf.

  

I have ten hours of firing and two days of cooling before I know how this kiln load will turn out. One way for me to know that that the firing is going correctly is by peaking into the kiln. This is done by removing one brick per hole and looking at my cone pack (see above) and the atmosphere inside the kiln. The different color cones will melt at different temperatures during the firing and allow me to know where I’m at in the firing process. The atmosphere should be cloudy for most of the firing.

Katie Cup with a New Look!

If you know me, you know that I like to try new and interesting things all the time. I have now made the Katie cup with stoneware clay and this is the new look.

Gina has encouraged me to make a vase with this pattern on the side which I worked on today. I will see and let you know soon.

The Heat is On!

The heat is on to finish up the second kiln of the new year.  I'm working on glazing coffee cups this morning.  These cups are shorter and wider with white glaze inside and tenmoku on the outside (brown).  I have two bars (two full sections on my shelves) glazed and am working on the last section (the bottom shelf) of pieces to glaze.  Please note, the top shelf are extra pieces that do not fit into my kiln and the HEATER is really on. 

Gina was nice enough to carry some of the pieces from the last kiln up to the gallery.  Just remember, we are always open...even if we have some snow.

We have over 400 pieces in the gallery.  The bowl below has a raw lip that is chattered and tenmoku glaze on the inside.

Some Pretty Winter Wonderland Photos from the Storm

This is a view from the backyard of the house looking east with the sun coming up after our "snow storm" on Tuesday.  We had at least 10 inches of new snow on the ground.  Both, Gina and I did not have classes on Tuesday evening due to the snow.  We have another snow storm headed from the west coast for next week!

A view of the studio and gallery on Wednesday morning!  Thanks to our neighbor...the parking area has been plowed out and we are ready for customers.  Yes, I have been working on the next kiln in my studio.
